Why Paleo?

I believe that my physical health has a tremendous impact on my mental health. I’ve grappled with this idea without taking action for far too long.  I’ve been a serial Weight Watchers member for nearly a decade, I’ve demonized carbohydrates with the Atkin’s diets, I’ve prayed for the money to do NutriSystems and I’ve even tried total starvation.

Ok, but WHY Paleo?

Because it’s a lifestyle overhaul! I really think that Paleo is the change I need. It just makes sense. Like one of my crotchety relatives always said, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Why would I eat the chemicals, gmos and processed garbage that our society is pumping out today, when our species survived for hundreds of thousands of years on the natural, good, bountiful food that the earth provided for them? Cavemen didn’t eat Lean Cuisines or 100-Calorie Packs, and I can promise you they were much healthier than I, and 2/3 of the American population are now.

So, you’re going to become a caveman?

No, of course not. I don’t think it’s practical to eat exactly what the cavemen and earlier humans ate. I do however think it’s practical to try while taking advantage of modern advancements and  allowing room for variety.
Also, it’s probably important to mention that I have a disorder that makes my body hate carbohydrates and sugar (but really, what’s the difference?). So, for this reason and its’ simply logical appeal, I think I’m going to give it a go.  Feel like trying it out with me? Maybe just reading about my journey? Either way, I hope you’ll tag along!
